General Information

We teach Jushin-Ryu Karate-Do in a traditional style, following the methods and high standards established by Jushin-Ryu Karate-Do International.

(If you’d like to learn more about the terms karate, karate-do, and karate-jutsu, you can find an explanation here.)

Our classes are primarily structured for students aged 13 and over, though we do welcome younger members from age 8.

You can view the ATKA belt ranking system here, and see a full list of students who have earned black belt status here.

Our New Zealand Chief Instructor, Karl Taaka, was appointed in 2001 following the recommendation of a senior panel within the ATKA.

The ATKA has even stepped into the spotlight: when martial arts practitioners were needed for an episode of the TV series Hercules, producers turned to our organisation. Twelve of our members appeared in the episode that introduced Xena. You can view a photo of our club instructors here.
